Blue Gray Alliance, Battle of Gettysburg 150th Reenactment photos, McPherson's Ridge

This weekend, I’m down in Gettysburg to attend the Blue Gray Alliance 150th Gettysburg Reenactment.  Fridays morning’s scenario covered the 1st day of the battle including, Buford’s stand, The Railroad Cut and McPherson’s Ridge. Unfortunately, I arrived a little late for the reenactment because I made the five hour drive down from Central New York this morning. I arrived just after the Unions 1st core’s infantry entered the battle. I thought this was a great opening reenactment, and I’m very excited for tomorrow’s events. On to the photos.

Welcome to On Campaign with General Bt Sherman 2.0 on Blogger

After two years of having my blog hosted by 6sided, I have decided to transfer to blogger. I had a very positive experience with 6sided, but I was concerned about the long term future of the site. So, I decided that now was the time to switch over before my blog got any larger. Over the coming months, I will be moving into several new periods and I will have a lot more on my ongoing 10mm ACW project.

Thanks for visiting and happy gaming.

Painted: Buildings in Turmoil, The Widow Thompson House

Today, I have a few photos of my newly painted 10mm Thompson House from Buildings in Turmoil. During the Battle of Gettysburg General Robert E. Lee used the Thompson House as his headquarters.

Painted: Buildings in Turmoil, McPherson Farm

I have begun work on my Gettysburg games. The first two scenarios will cover the morning and afternoon fight for McPherson Ridge, Seminary Ridge and Oak Ridge. In preparation for these games, my first priority after getting my dismounted Union cavalry painted was to start painting my 10mm Gettysburg buildings from Buildings in Turmoil. At first, I was a little intimidated by all the fine detail that these models have. But in the end, I ended up painting them just like all my other 10mm buildings and I think they turned out great. Below are a few photos of my completed McPherson Farm. Next, I will be working on the Thompson house, McLean Farm, and finally the Seminary. I will post photos as I complete them.

About This Game:

I ran this game three times in the fall of 2012, including at Fall-In. The Union players won two of the three games. The game pictured above was a near Union victory. Shortly after putting this game together, Rick Hasenauer released a Cornfield scenario for his Regimental Fire and Fury Scenarios book. At some point, I’m hoping to revisit this battle and give Rick’s scenario a try.

Skirmish Campaign “Russia 41-into the Ukraine"

One of my flea market purchases at this year’s Cold War’s convention was a copy of Skirmish Campaign “Russia 41-into the Ukraine” by Scott Fisher and Nathan Forney. The book includes 10 scenarios that cover the June/July German invasion of the Ukraine during Operation Barbarossa. These scenarios were written for smaller skirmish size games, but with some simple modifications, I believe that they will work well with my preferred World War 2 rule set, Blitzkrieg Commander II.

Over the last few weeks, I have taken a brief detour away from my nonstop American Civil War project to work on down grading my mid war German and Russian armies. These armies are comprised mostly of figures from Battlefront. Since my last foray into 15mm WWII, Zvezda and the Plastic Solder Company have started to offer plastic models. Priced at less than half of what a resin tank from Battlefront costs, I decided to use plastic models whenever possible for this expansion. Having now painted and assembled around 30 plastic tanks, I must say that I’m pleased with them. Going forward, I will probably choose plastic over resin whenever possible.

Let’s take a look at my reinforcements:

T-28's, manufactured by Battlefront.

BA-10 armoured, manufactured by Old Glory 25.

T-35 Super Heavy Tank. These all resin models were manufactured by Gaming Models. Priced at only $5.00 each, these are the cheapest T-35’s on the market today. Link: http://www.gamodls.com

T-26 Light Tank, manufactured by Zvezda.

OT-26 Flamethrower Tank, manufactured by Zvezda.

BT-5/BT-7 tank, manufactured by Zvezda.

Panzer IV F, manufactured by Plastic Soldier Company.

Panzer III G, manufactured by Plastic Soldier Company.

German Motorcycle infantry, manufactured by Battlefront.

SdKfz.222 & SdKfz.232, by Battlefront

Panzer II, by Zvezda

StuG III B, by Zvezda

Sd Kfz 10/4, by Battlefront
