150th Battle of First Manassas Reenactment (part 1 Matthews Hill)

Photos were taken on July 23rd 2011 by Bryan Olson

All that stands in the path of the advancing Union army is the reduced brigade commanded by Col Nathan “shanks” Evans.

The 1st Minnesota moves to flank the Confederate line.

Evans is soon reinforced with brigades under General Barnard Bee and Col. Francis Bartow. Combined they successfully hold back the Union advance for a time.

Sherman crosses his brigade at an unguarded ford and attacks the Confederates right flank. This combined pressure causes the confederate line to collapse and fall back to Henry Hill.
