10mm American Civil War Miniatures from Cracker Line Miniatures

A few weeks ago after posting my latest 10mm American Civil War comparison photo on The Miniatures Page, I was contacted by ACWBill who wanted to let me know that he was also working on producing a range of 10mm ACW figures. He kindly sent me a sample of his figures for me to add to my comparison photo. The name of Bill’s figure range is The Cracker Line. The range is focused on the Western Theater of the war with a particular emphasis on the 1863 campaign. The figures fall into the smaller end of the 10mm scale. They best match up well with figures from Starfort and the Baggage Train. The following packs are currently available:

Painted 10mm American Civil War Confederate Infantry Firing

This week I started to base some of the troops that I painted earlier in the year. First up was my Firing/loading Confederate infantry (manufactured by Pendraken). This batch consisted of 224 figures. As I mentioned in a previous post, I really like all the various poses that these figures come in.  I think they will make a great addition to my Confederate army. Next up I will be basing my Union advancing infantry.

10mm American Civil War Project Update (March/ April)

It has been two months since my last project update. Since then I have completed a batch of 400 advancing Union Infantrymen and a batch of 240 Confederate firing Infantrymen. I am now working on a batch of 240 Union firing Infantrymen. All of these figures were manufactured by Pendraken. I have never been a fan of the firing infantry pose but I see the esthetic advantages of using these troops in defensive situations. Pendrakens firing infantry or battle line are particularly nice figures. Each of the two sets comes with around six poses. I can’t wait to get these troops based and on my table.

As summer approaches I am anticipating that my painting output will drop for a time. I have nearly 1300 painted troops that I need to get based and I also want to spend some time working on new terrain. Besides these projects, I’m hoping to play several battles over the summer months including, Fair Oaks (Seven Pines), The Dump (2^nd Manassas), Parts of Antietam, and several smaller battles. I’m expecting that my painting productivity will pick up once again in the September/October time period.

American Civil War project phase 1 completed

Phase one of my American Civil War project has been completed. My Goal for phase one was to paint enough figures to re-fight the battle for Henry House Hill (1^st Bull Run). It took me eleven months (Oct, 2010 to Sep, 2011) to paint the approximant 1500 figures required to meet this goal. Over those eleven months, I successfully avoided the temptations of stating other projects and I stayed focused solely on meeting my goal. This within its self is a great achievement for me. Below are some images of the final product.

My advice for anyone starting a large project like this is: 1) If you’re in the states and plan on ordering overseas, estimate that it will take about 6 weeks to get your order. 2) Set achievable goals. Pick a small or medium size battle and set that as your goal. After meeting that goal pick a larger battle for the next goal. 3) Most important, stay focused on meeting your goal and don’t stray into other projects or periods.

10mm American Civil War Project Update (Painted Confederate Infantry)

The last couple of weeks have been very productive for me. I finished painting up my second batch of Confederate Infantry and over the last week I combined these with my first batch and I got them based. I now have 151 bases of Rebel Infantry. Below are some pictures of the final product. Next, I will be working on Artillery and Generals for both sides.

The bases are from Litko. The dimensions are: 1” X1/2” and 3mm thick.

I used 30 pound fishing line for the flag poles. As you can see this makes for a very resilient flag pole.
